This is a real experience happened with my wife, while she was traveling to US from India.I would like to explain how this company Uniconnect which claims to provide international sim card facility for international visitors.
Let us first know what service this company provides:
- International sim cards for travelers
- Prepaid and postpaid
- It claims to provide outgoing call @ Re1/- /minute and free incoming calls
- It supports GSM sets and all smartphones
- Online recharge facility
So Let me tell you the major problems we faced with Uniconnect.
We purchased Uniconnect 2 sims from Mumbai International Airport(India). One sim each for Dubai and other one for US.So when we try to use it in Dubai, there was network connectivity but no incoming or outgoing calls. It was frustrating as she has very less time in Dubai and she has to go to public booth to make calls.
Then the next time which is meant for US , did not work either.Surprisingly there was no network and no incoming or outgoing calls. It is frustrating that even after spending 1000 INR, the sim failed to work and prove useless.
Once my wife arrived in US we immediately contacted Uniconnect customer care and registered our complaint and also sent mail to them. They responded in a negative way and first told us they will get back to you. They have not called us even after 1 week. After 2 weeks I called them again and asked them to retrun money as sim did not work. They said they will check from their side. After a month they concluded that my phone may not supported by sim and sim was in a good condition. They did not listen any of our argument even though we showed our phone to the salesman selling sim at aiport that time and confirmed that the sim will work on our phone.I am still looking to file this case in consumer forum as company denied to have fault from his side.It will be little difficult for me as I am in US and I have to file case in India.
Everything which happens to us leave a lesson. The thing which I learned from this incident is Uniconnect is not a customer friendly company. They fool customer and in my opinion is not a horse of long run.By cheating and misleading customer, you may earn in the beginning but in a long run you will surely fail and disappear from the market.
First of all do not buy sim from the airport as almost all airport has public pay phone from where you can make international calls. But if at all it is must to have a sim, first get confirmation from salesman of the sim whether the sim will work on your phone. Then read the terms and condition and be aware how you will get refund in case it will not work on your phone. Most of the times salesman will say it will work with your handset as they get commission with every sale.Get a written communication with the salesman that it will work with your handset and also take a business card of the salesman. In case it will not work at desired country, this communication will work as an evidence for you.
Remember as a customer you have right to file a case and claim if a company failed to provide service as it says. The same thing goes for a company too, misleading customer will only make you quick money but someday you will be trapped by some customer and loose credibility just like Uniconnect. Please do share your experience if any like it.
